Key Messages:

 - Cool and dry airmass settles in today.

 - Shower and thunderstorm activity returns Saturday.

A pleasant Friday across northern and central Georgia, especially
for late May standards, thanks to a cool and dry frontal boundary
pushing through the area and high pressure sitting over the
Tennessee Valley. While an isolated shower cannot be ruled out
this afternoon along the boundary, most areas will be rain free
under mostly sunny skies and breezy northerly winds. High
temperatures will climb into the upper 70s across northern GA,
with low to mid 80s across central GA.

Late tonight into early Saturday morning, increasing cloud cover
and isolated to scattered showers will start to push into NW GA.
These will develop along an axis of moisture convergence setting
up out ahead of a mid-level shortwave quickly dropping across the
Mississippi Valley. Shower activity will be confined to N/NW GA
for the morning and into the afternoon hours, with a few
thunderstorms possible. High temperatures will range
significantly across the area, with far northern GA only reaching
the low to mid 70s under mostly cloudy skies, and central GA
reaching the mid to upper 80s under mostly clear skies. By early
Saturday evening, the aforementioned shortwave will start to push
into the state from the NW, and could lead to an uptick in
shower/storm activity as it moves through the state the rest pf
the evening and into the overnight hours. A few storms could
become strong with gusty winds during this time, but the
potential for severe storms is low given the weak instability in
place.

Key Messages:

    - An unsettled forecast with elevated rain chances will linger
      across the area through the long-term forecast period.

    - A CAD wedge will provide cooler temperatures to north Georgia
      during the early week.

    - Locally heavy rainfall is possible given abundant moisture.

The bulk of the long term forecast will bring increased rain chances
and generally unsettled weather. The CWA will begin transitioning
out of northwest flow aloft at the start of the forecast period
Sunday. PoPs will remain elevated on Sunday, maximized across north
Georgia with more scattered coverage farther south. Forecast SBCAPE
1000-1500 J/kg will support thunderstorms, though generally
unimpressive shear will limit the overall severe threat. Still, the
environment could manifest at least an isolated severe threat,
particularly if any MCS approaches, weakens, and leaves remnant
outflow boundaries to provide impetus for afternoon convective
development.

By Monday into Tuesday, a CAD wedge looks to build into north
Georgia, though CAD intensity remains a bit of a question mark at
this juncture. In any case, temperatures should be noticeably cooler
across north Georgia under the influence of this wedge with hotter
temperatures relegated farther southward into Middle Georgia. Waves
of showers and thunderstorms are expected through at least midweek
as intermittent upper disturbances progress eastward across the area
amid an environment characterized by above-normal moisture with
PWATs on the order of 1.5 to 2" through the week. Locally heavy
rainfall will be possible within daily convection which could lead
to isolated flash flooding concerns, though widespread flooding
issues are not currently anticipated.

VFR conditions prevail the rest of the day with breezy NW winds
around 10G20kt tapering off late this evening. Increasing cloud
coverage (generally 050-100 kft) from Saturday morning on with
ISO-SCT SHRA. Can`t rule out an afternoon ISO TSRA, but confidence
is too low to mention. Any SHRA/TSRA would bring brief periods of
MVFR or worse. Winds will be light on Saturday, generally around
5-7 kts or less out of the NE/E.

Medium confidence on SHRA/TSRA activity, and on wind direction on
Saturday. High on all other elements.
