.KEY MESSAGES...
Updated at 734 PM EDT Sat Apr 11 2026
- High fire danger conditions are again expected on Sunday amid
ongoing very warm and dry weather.
- Temperatures will remain well above normal through next week. A
few locations could approach daily record highs by mid-week.
- With little chance of appreciable rainfall over the next 7 days
drought conditions are likely to worsen.

.SHORT TERM...
(This afternoon through Sunday)
Issued at 228 PM EDT Sat Apr 11 2026
Dry and hot (for April) conditions will persist under the grip of
high pressure. Surface high pressure will continue to slide eastward
through Sunday, ultimately centered off the coast of the
northeastern U.S. by Sunday evening. Meanwhile, ridging aloft will
bring well above normal temperatures, with highs again soaring into
the mid 80s Sunday afternoon.
Fire weather concerns will again arise on Sunday afternoon as
minimum relative humidity values bottom out in the low-to-mid 20
percent range. South-southeast winds will be breezier with
occasional gusts as high as 15-20 mph, particularly across far north
Georgia. While short of Red Flag thresholds, ongoing very dry fuels
and low humidity alongside the slightly breezier conditions all add
up to hazardous fire weather conditions and continued strong
discouragement of outdoor burning amid our worsening drought.
&&
.LONG TERM...
(Monday morning through next Friday)
Issued at 228 PM EDT Sat Apr 11 2026
Model guidance remains in strong agreement on the overall
synoptic pattern throughout the upcoming week, with very warm and
dry conditions continuing. A textbook omega block pattern will
set up during this period and keep things stagnant, with a strong
mid-level ridge developing over the Gulf and tilting up across
the Southeast US, and troughing on both sides of the ridge. Dry
air from the mid to high latitudes will wrap around the east side
of the ridge and keep PWAT values over Georgia generally under
0.75-1" through the end of next week, resulting in near zero
rainfall chances. This will only worsen our ongoing drought
conditions, and the low moisture will likely lead to daily fire
weather concerns, even if it isn`t windy. As the ridge gradually
builds and the airmass warms next week, both high and low
temperatures will likely end up around 12-20 degrees above
normal. This will translate to high temperatures climbing from
the low to mid 80s on Monday, to the upper 80s and low 90s the
rest of the week. Daily records would be in jeopardy with those
temps. Overnight lows would likely only drop to the low to mid
60s. The one benefit of the lower moisture/humidity is that heat
index values would not be a concern during this period.
